Milestone agreement for defence technology studies

Emiratis are stepping up their technical knowledge in the defence and security industry following a partnership agreement signed today between EADS Defence & Security (DS), Emiraje Systems (a partnership between C4AS and DS) and the Khalifa University of Science, Technology & Research (KUSTAR).

The three parties signed a MoU for a collaboration programme, which aims to increase the local capability in specified technology areas associated with Cyber Operations within KUSTAR in particular and in theUAE and GCC more generally.


The collaboration programme includes various activities such as summer internship opportunities for up to 15 KUSTAR students in various European DS facilities.

Beside this, a joint DS and KUSTAR Centre of Excellence will be created with a world-wide reputation for competence in the field of Cyber Operations, with particular emphasis on the protection of Critical National Infrastructure and Critical Information Infrastructure.

DS will also sponsor appropriate postgraduate studies, make linkages to other leading Universities in the field and sponsor an international lecture programme on innovation in Cyber Operations for Critical National Infrastructure.

Emiraje – which was set up bring to the most advance C4ISR solutions to UAE and wider MENA markets will facilitate the development of the Cyber Operations Centre of Excellence.

KUSTAR is an Abu Dhabi government initiative and is owned solely by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The board of Trustees is chaired by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
