The event will feature demonstrations, tours and aviation-themed movies. It’s open to the public.
The event is being held in conjunction with the annual WSU College of Engineering Open House.
Although not founded until 1985, the institute traces its origins back to the first wind tunnel test at what was then the University of Wichita in 1928.
Since its official establishment, NIAR has continued to grow and now occupies 135,000 square feet of laboratory and office space. It has been designated as an Airworthiness Assurance Center of Excellence and a Center for General Aviation Research by the Federal Aviation Administration.
In 2001, NIAR won the FAA’s Excellence in Aviation institutional award.
The FAA designated NIAR as the lead institution for the Center of Excellence for Composites and Advanced Materials in 2003.
Thanks in part to NIAR, WSU was ranked third in 2008 among all U.S. universities for aerospace engineering research and development on a list compiled by the National Science Foundation.
